Press Articles and Guidebooks featuring Riad Ariha

January’s typically a gloomy month of careful budgeting and general restraint. But with all the flight sales going on this month, we can feel ourselves being tempted out of our gloomy winter blues. Passports at the ready…

With temperatures currently sitting at a comfortable 20 degrees, Marrakech is the perfect place to experience a little glimpse of winter sun, but without the hefty price tag. And nowhere is that more the case than at the wonderfully atmospheric Riad Ariha, whose room rates in January start at a temptingly low £58. Aside from the handful of inviting rooms (where sumptuous beds clad with crisp white linens and cool stone bathrooms are the order of the day), there’s an outdoor courtyard with a small tranquil pool and an enormous roof terrace strewn with loungers and cushions for lazing about on and soaking up the African sun.

“Well tucked away inside the labyrinthic Medina (Old City) in Marrakech behind a small wooden door, you´ll find Riad Ariha. Riad Ariha is a five-room Riad, owned by a Canadian/Palestinian couple who lives in Canada, but comes to Marrakech every three-month. The rooms are small, but clean and cosy and the Moroccan staff is unbelievable friendly! Theres a nice courtyard where breakfast is served, and a small dipping pool for hot, sore and tired feet – believe me they can get sore after a whole day of shopping in the souks! And its wonderful quiet. Hard to believe you just a 10 minutes walk away from the hustle and bustle of Djemaa El Fnaa. Prices start at 70 euros for a night for a double. During the low season you can usually get at 20 % discount. Definitely a Riad to consider if you´re of to Marrakech.”

“Riad Ariha

Most riads open upwards to the sky, streaming light into the courtyards during the day and revealing twinkling night skies come sundown. Riad Ariha is no exception. In fact, once you’ve got yourself thoroughly wrapped up in the serenity of the place, it can be pretty hard to leave. Nowhere is this more the case than when you’re up on the roof terrace, with its low-slung seating areas and overstuffed cushions, wrought-iron lanterns and sweeping views over the Atlas Mountains. And if the smell of home-cooked food does tempt you down from the roof, then you’re in for a treat – the tagines are well worth it.”

“Riad Ariha Review

Riad Ariha is at least a couple of hundred years old and was restored with owner Barbara’s deep fascination and respect for Moroccan interiors. “Zen meets Morocco” is Barbara’s theme for the space, and entering the riad’s simple, white-dominated interior is a pleasant and instantly calming surprise. Both a small plunge pool and a linen-draped salon lead off from the small inner courtyard, where bejmat (tile) flooring adds to the earthy and peaceful ambience. Also on the ground floor is a small hammam for two; in-room aromatherapy massages and beauty treatments can be arranged.
